Electronic music legend Paul Birken will headline the Saturday night Nightlife concert at the Nomad World Pub. Electronic music legend Paul Birken will now headline Spark's Saturday night Nightlife show, filling in for scheduled artist Richard Devine, who unexpectedly became ill in recent days. Morton Subotnick
Morton Subotnick is one of the pioneers in the development of electronic music and an innovator in works involving instruments and other media, including interactive computer music systems. The work which brought Subotnick celebrity was Silver Apples of the Moon [1966- 7], was commissioned by Nonesuch Records, marking the first time an original large-scale composition had been created specifically for the disc medium - a conscious acknowledgment that the home stereo system constituted a present-day form of chamber music. ...more...Richard Devine
During the past three years, Richard Devine has remixed top Warp artists like Aphex Twin and Mike Patton (Faith No More). He has released 4 full-length albums on Schematic, Warp, Asphodel, and Sublight records and has performed his own ear-tearing music mayhem worldwide. Based from Atlanta, Georgia he has done film score work for Touchstone Pictures (with John Hues & Kyle Cooper). He has also collaborated with BT (Brian Transeau on movie "Surveillance" Directed by Adam Rifkin, Wieden & Kennedy, AKQA Inc., and have done sound mangling/programming for Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, composed and designed ...more...Special Events for 2007:
In collaboration with the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota in conjunction with its exhibition "Bob Dylan's American Journey 1956-1966," we are inviting submissions in two special catagories:
Bob Dylan Remix Submissions: Submit your remix of a Bob Dylan work. Selected submissions will be programmed throughout the festival.
Bob Dylan Themed Installations: We are looking for installations that relates to the theme of "Bob Dylan's American Journey, 1956-1966." Selected installations will be installed at the Weisman Art Museum and elsewhere throughout Spark Festival event locations.
To submit in either of these catagories, enter the online submission system and follow the instructions.
Software
A new submission catagory for software has been added. We are looking for applications that create, enrich, enhance, or contribute to the digital arts or the teaching of the digital arts. Selected applications will be given a demonstration area and poster presentation. Additionally, programmers may be invited to give a paper demonstration on their work.

Headphone Festival
As a part of Spark 2007, we have invited Viv Corringham and Scott Stulen to curate another installment of their "Headphone Festival." Its a BYO-Headhpone event, always exciting and sure to amaze. More information on the event can be found in a recent MPR story.

The Spark Festival locations include many venues in the Ceder/Riverside area of Minneapolis. The venues this year include:

- Coffman Memorial Union/The Whole
- Regis Center for Art/InFlux

Concerts
Over 15 concerts, 5 paper sessions, and 4 featured lectures are scheduled, including artists and presenters from all over the world.
Spark NightLife
Last year we added "Spark NightLife" held at the Nomad World Pub, and we are happy to announce this tradition will continue. Every night of the festival from 10pm to 1am (and later) we will take over the Nomad for a series of specially selected "club music works," curated by JP Hungelmann.
Special Presentations
In addition to the panel session, artists from all over the world will present their work and research. Events will include special presentations by Morton Subotnick and Richard Devine about their work, and more still in the planning stages.

The submission system is now online. Please note the deadline for works is postmarked October 10. We will make the notifications as soon as possible.
